Nimbus
Boats of Scandinavia
Nimbus
was formed 30 years ago through the vision
of its founders, following the acquisition
of a successful boat factory located in the
small town of Lungås, Sweden. Centuries
of Scandinavian shipbuilding skills flow
in the veins of each boat craftsman and today
contribute to the excellence of each Nimbus
boat produced.
Nimbus
Boats AB - headquartered in Långedrag
outside Gotherburg, Sweden - is now the center
for R&D, domestic and international sales,
as well as Nimbus management. As one of Europe’s
largest boat manufacturers, Nimbus Boats
is the producer of the well-respected Swedish
brands: Nimbus, Storebro and Maxi Yachts.
Factories located in Lungås, Visby
and Storebro employ the latest technology
in state-of-the-art production facilities.
Design
It came as no surprise to the boating
world in 2003 when the Foundation for Swedish
Industrial Design awarded its prize for Excellent
Swedish Design to a boat manufacturer – Nimbus – for
its newly developed Nimbus 300 Nova R. This
prize had never been awarded for a boat design
before, and the news created great attention
in the media.
The
idea behind a Nimbus boat is for it to be
genuinely marine, in the traditional boating
style, with great care evident in the fine
woodwork and detailed finish. Elegance, modern
lines and timeliness are three common impressions
held by those who come onboard a Nimbus craft.
A
Nimbus boat is built with good turning stability,
stable sandwich hull design and a robust
stiffening system. The lush wood interior
affords the perfect atmosphere below deck.
Brand
Updated and redefined Nimbus models
will always be recognizable to current owners
of Nimbus crafts. Nimbus focuses on the idea
that its boats are to be ageless in their overall
design. On the interior, Nimbus continually
upgrades and improves the technology, interior
design and attention to details.
The
Nimbus brand is well known in Scandinavia
and throughout Europe. Industry experts and
the media often focus on the brand’s
safety and stability, as well as Nimbus’ long-term
commitment to customers and the high resale
value of its boats.
Nimbus
customers can also remain confident that
the model they purchase will not disappear
after one or two years. At the same time,
Nimbus ensures that its boats are state-of-the–art
when it comes to functionality, instruments
and electronics.
Quality
The production of a Nimbus boat follows
the Nordic boating tradition of robust and
solid construction. The wealth of experience
and the competence of the Nimbus factory employees
are core to the strength of the Nimbus brand.
Each
Nimbus craft undergoes a rigorous quality
assurance program, beginning with meeting
the EU recreational craft directive, which
specifies the standards of boat production.
Nimbus has also chosen one of the world’s
most highly respected quality and safety
certification organizations, Det Norske Veritas
(DNV), to certify its quality assurance systems.
The third party inspection team from DNV
makes frequent surprise inspections of the
Nimbus boat production. Through constant
feedback and dialogue with customers, certification
organizations and Nimbus dealerships, Nimbus
has achieved a high level of repeat customers
(for example, in Sweden, 80 percent of Nimbus
owners become repeat customers).
At
Nimbus, the people on the manufacturing line
are motivated and interested in knowing how
their work meets up to quality standards.
Skills and attitude are essential in keeping
the quality high. The people at Nimbus take
great pride in satisfying customer requests
and exceeding customer expectations.
Every
six months, Nimbus boats are evaluated for
further ways that they can be developed and
improved for the next season. Between reviews,
Nimbus is also prompt to address any immediate
problems that might arise with current designs.
Manufacturing
As Scandinavia’s largest producer
of laminates, Nimbus has invested in developing
its products through research and close collaboration
with its suppliers. Sandwiching technology
has been developed and refined in Nimbus’ designs
ever since the company started up, resulting
in strong, well-insulated and condensation-free
boats.
At
the Nimbus Development Center in Langedrag/Gotherburg,
Sweden where all Nimbus boats are now developed
and designed, special emphasis is placed
on comfort, quality, design and safety. Nimbus
uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design to Computer
Aided Manufacturing) systems for extreme
precision in the making of hull plugs and
boat parts. Each boat is handmade by experienced
boat builders. Nimbus uses the latest manufacturing
process called SCRIMP (Seaman Composites
Resin Infusion Molding Process). This process
means that everything is put down dry – fiberglass,
composite, core and fiberglass – and “bagged” dry,
then an exact quantity of resin is injected
into the bag at various points. The vacuum
sucks the resin throughout the lay-up, wetting
the assembly but without excess, resulting
in an extremely strong and light composite.
Dealers
The success of Nimbus expands beyond
the borders of Scandinavia to encompass a truly
global network of dealerships. Dealerships
can be found in Angola, Croatia, Denmark, England,
Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan,
Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,
Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
and the United States.
